Writing Longhand

Posted on by

I wrote more of The Young City yesterday. Actually sat down at the dining room table and wrote it out longhand. I haven’t composed this much longhand since before the days when every member of my family had a computer (at least five years).

Not only is writing longhand hard on your fingers and slower than typing, but it gives your creation a sense of permanence that doesn’t exist as strongly when you’re typing into a computer and printing out, typing in and printing out. Older printouts can be safely tossed into the recycling so that every hard copy is fresh and typo free.

Of course, I’ll still be typing The Young City into the computer, but the first draft will still be there, warts and all on yellow notepad paper, for everyone to see. Why do I feel good about that? Any suggestions?
