Conrad! All is Forgiven!

I can't believe it, but I miss Conrad Black. I think I owe him an apology. When he controlled the National Post and the Southam newspaper chain, I was most irked by the ideological stance he inserted into his newspapers' editorial outlook. I found his actions arrogant and dangerous, and I was frankly glad when he left Canada to become another U.K. media baron. His replacement couldn't be any worse, could it?

Never, ever, ever, assume such things, James!

Given that the Aspers have something approaching a monopoly in terms of their control of Canada's newspapers and television content, and given that this monopoly is unlikely to be broken up while their good friend Jean Chretien remains Prime Minister, I support Bag O'Wicks' suggestion that the Aspers' holdings be boycotted until they take steps to ensure true editorial independence and integrity.

Let's not be spoonfed only those opinions that are palatable to Izzy Asper. Turn off Global Television, refuse to read the National Post or any of the Aspers' other papers. That's what I'll do.

I'm not the only one calling for a boycott, it seems. Click here. And here's Rex Murphy's point of view. In my view, Rex sums up the situation best.
