A friend of mine asked me to follow up on this post on the Centre Block with a post promoting the various local efforts to preserve the historic structures on the block. These include some blogging. I’m more than happy to oblige.
Shirt Tales is a blog about the Forsythe factory and the efforts to preserve what’s left of it. A number of critical meetings are coming up which will determine the future off this block. The first starts on Monday at 12:30 p.m. as the Finance and Corporate Services Committee meets in the council chambers. The committee will consider a number of reports on the Centre block from various steering and advisory committees as well as city staff. The agenda and the reports are avaialble on the City of Kitchener’s website.
On Tuesday, the Heritage Committee meets at 4 p.m. in the Conestoga Room in City Hall. The private property owners of the Centre Block will be appearing before the committee to see what’s what.
And finally, the big meeting will come on Monday the 13th as City Council meets in chambres at 7 p.m. to determine whether the Mayfair Hotel deserves heritage designation and to discuss the final fate of the Centre Block.
