While I was on the road today, I heard about the Swiss’ upset 2-0 victory over Team Canada in Olympic men’s hockey. I comment on this because as I type this, it’s almost 6 p.m., and none of the blogs I read that usually comment on hockey have said a word about this.
I can only assume they’re in a state of shock.
For the record, I hate professional hockey, full stop. However, I am cheering for the Canadian Olympic team enough that I feel it is my duty to console my fellow bloggers and tell them to buck up.
Team Canada outshot the Swiss something like 49-18, so it’s not like the Canadians held back. They obviously ran into a hot goalie. And give the Swiss credit. They tied the Americans and they beat the Czechs. They’re obviously a force to be reckoned with, and there’s no shame losing to this team.
I’m sure the Canadians will study their methods, find their weaknesses and be ready for the next time. If we face them in the gold medal game, we’ll beat them. Sure, it will be a fight, but we came to fight.
The Canadian women should prepare themselves for a hard game against the Swedes. They’re also playing well above expectations…
So, you see? No need to panic.
(Update: Sunday at 7:46 p.m.):
Psst!
What?
The Finns beat us too. 2-0.
Really?
Oh. I see. Well, in that case:
PANIC!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
