Proudly Placing Square Pegs on Round Holes

Look what Nora did the other day…

What you are seeing is one of those fit-the-shape-into-the-hole puzzle games which we haven’t gotten rid of, yet, despite both our kids having outgrown them some time ago. This one is supposed to teach your toddlers numbers, using shaped pieces starting from zero and ending at nine.

I happened to notice that Nora had taken all of the pieces out of their holes, and had carefully gone through and placed “one” in the first hole (intended for zero), two in the next hole (intended for one), all the way up the line until she placed the zero in the hole intended for nine. None of the pieces fit, of course, but she placed them just right, in such a way that she seemed to be making a statement.

I wonder what that statement is…
