Though I’ve posted the above, I have to say that I have my doubts about the Black Friday number. People have died in Black Friday related stampedes, crushes and even fights and shootings, but there’s been no official confirmation of the number. All the other links I can find are just those replaying the “fact” verbatim, with no link to any source. Snopes.com hasn’t posted a debunking as far as I can see, but this Wikipedia article does not list enough examples to get even close to the 550 number.
Even so. I think I’m far more likely to swim in the ocean than I am to be attending any sort of Black Friday event this year, or any year.
