I snapped this last Christmas, intending to post it here, then forgot. When I came upon this again, my feelings came flooding back.
You’re reading this right: A Stirling Silver Starbucks Card. For $200, with a $50 charge included on the card. So, this gift is basically $50 in free coffee and a $150 stick of silver.
Is the silver in this card actually worth $150? Will “real-metal” coin fanatics be able to stockpile these when the paper-backed money economy collapses and we all fend for ourselves with gold, platinum and barter? Somehow I doubt it.
One thing that really gets me about conspicuous consumption is just how bloody pointless it all is.
